The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has long been a favorite of Countryside Chevrolet customers because of how much this workhorse pickup truck can accomplish. Chevrolet incorporated a long list of updates into the current model, including revised towing capacities, giving the Silverado 1500 more capability than ever before. Here is what you can expect when you select the Silverado 1500 as your new pickup truck.

Towing Capacity by Engine

Selecting your engine will determine your truck's overall towing capacity. Chevrolet offers four different engines for the Silverado 1500. Which one you choose will determine the maximum weight your truck can tow. Following are tow capacities per each available engine.

  • The 2.7-liter gas turbocharged engine with active fuel management gives you 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, and you can expect a 9,600-pound maximum towing capacity with this standard powertrain.
  • The 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine has a towing capacity of 9,500 pounds, producing 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
  • The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 with dynamic fuel management produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. When active fuel management is enabled, it can tow up to 10,000 pounds, without it, you can tow up to 11,500 pounds.
  • The 6.2-liter V8 with dynamic fuel management can tow a maximum of 13,300 pounds while also producing 420 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

Other Features That Affect Towing Capacity

Engine power isn't the only factor affecting the towing capacity of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 model you buy at Countryside Chevrolet. Configurations like whether you choose a crew cab or a double cab, a standard bed or a long bed will also affect towing and payload capacity.

To get the most towing capacity out of your Silverado 1500, make sure you add the trailering package, which includes a trailering hitch platform, seven-way sealed connector, seven-wire harness, automatic locking rear differential and a 2.0-inch receiver.
